Hello Harbingers Community Members,
We regret to inform you that we have ceased the development of Harbingers and we will close the server completely on October 31st, 2021. Instead, our team will redevelop the game and our IPs into a blockchain-based game, “Defina.” Now, some of you might not be familiar with the term “blockchain.” Below, we will explain what it is and the reason why we decided to make this change.
The first time we heard about blockchain, we were amazed by the sheer potential of this technology. However, as we did not have enough experience in developing a blockchain-based product and immediate market adoption of this technology didn’t seem likely, we didn’t rush ourselves into pivoting our game’s direction.
This year, as our team secured funding from blockchain investors, the investors brought up the idea of developing a game that utilizes blockchain technology. These discussions happened while the market was slowly getting ready for the explosive growth of blockchain-based games. Our team took note of various successful use-cases of blockchain games and how their Play-to-Earn model enabled these games to be a source of income for individuals who lost their jobs due to COVID. Unlike traditional gaming, which only provides entertainment and escapism to players, blockchain-based gaming provides entertainment, escapism, and a true ownership economic model to gamers (think Fortnite, where you can own your skins and weapons and trade them with other players without having to sell your entire account). This opens doors for developers to create games where players can actively earn an income by playing their games.
We believe blockchain games and the Play-to-Earn model is the future of gaming and will be the earliest example of WEB 3.0, which will empower gamers to transform from consumers to ecosystem participants.
We believe that the traditional gaming industry will evolve into blockchain gaming for the following reasons:
1. Blockchain technology allows users to have true ownership of their assets (skins, weapons, accessories, etc.) and such assets can be sold/traded between gamers
2. Blockchain embraces decentralized decision-making, which transfers the power from game development companies to gamers. Blockchain-based games can issue their own crypto tokens which gamers can use in-game as currency and use them as governance tokens to vote on major decisions that will affect game development. 3. Blockchain games can adopt the Play-to-Earn model, which allows gamers to earn real-life income while enjoying playing games
We know that closing the Harbingers server might be disappointing news for many of our users, and we know how hard it is to say goodbye to characters you grew fond of. So we sincerely ask for your support and to help your favorite characters to be reborn in the decentralized world of Defina. Defina’s game mechanics will be different from Harbinger’s, and we’ve opened a writing contest to our community to give our new characters unique background stories so they will be created from the ground up by our users’ hands.
And to help all of you to get on board with blockchain games and NFTs, we will provide step-by-step tutorials to help you understand this new technology, set up your first crypto wallet, and guide you to own your favorite heroes and in-game assets. Even so, it might be a daunting experience to absorb all this new information all at once. We encourage you to join our Discord and converse with our community, which consists of both gamers and retail investors. Feel free to ask questions, share your insights into gaming, and, most importantly, have fun! We envision Defina to foster a strong and diverse community of gamers and retail investors who will decide the future of Defina.
