Hello Definians, here’s the fourth episode of the Defina Fam Interviews! In these intimate talks, we get a personal view of how our beloved community members got to where they are today.
In today’s event, we are excited to have Jieret, an amazing regional moderator from the USA! He’s helped foster our community in very unique ways. So let’s get into his journey 🌟.
Interview 📝
- Hi Jieret, glad to have you here! I’m curious, what’s your experience been like with Defina since you’ve been here from the very beginning?
-Jieret: Well, *almost* since the beginning. I think I got here in the middle of the original set of missions to get those levels, around August last year. I found Defina through Seedify and I was immediately hooked by the artwork — it seemed like the devs were well ahead of the game in delivering a product by having those incredible graphics. Then, between the community and Nikki’s relentless enthusiasm (Quiz Fridays, anyone?), I eventually put down roots here. Now I spend the vast majority of my time here, and very little with Seedify lol.
Long answer, I didn’t even get to the experience yet! I’ve enjoyed playing Defina! I’ve always been more of a collector when it comes to various things, so I’ve not focused on being hyper-competitive and winning Arena or anything. I just collect more NFTs, raise their levels… then collect more, I guess. The price of FINA hasn’t bothered me in the slightest, because I use my earnings to buy more heroes or stake [more].
2. Glad you established your roots here as you are beloved for sure! Something a lot of people admire about you is your consistency with the “flex your earnings” sheets you do daily. What inspires you to keep posting them? Have you tracked something similar in the past?
-Jieret: Have I tracked other things like that? No, but I probably should! I started tracking my earnings because Aeri and others did that, and it made me wonder how much I was making because I wasn’t paying attention at all. So I stole [I mean] borrowed her sheet, made a few tweaks, and went on my way.
And well, since I’m now tracking it, I guess I should show it to anyone who is curious, right? If someone gets inspired by seeing how much I make (or don’t make sometimes, ahem), that’s such a bonus! So tl;dr, others got me curious and it kinda snowballed out of control.
3. Haha, guess it snowballed in a great way. Also noticed that you were in the previous Defina writing group and now this latest one! What made you join? Have you done story writing in the past or something similar?
-Jieret: I enjoy writing, although real life doesn’t let me do it as much as I want to. But I felt like I could shake the rust off with the first batch of community writing (hero descriptions and world story), and I’m happy a few of my hero descriptions were chosen — it’s awesome to help build a world from the ground up! I do wish I had more time to flesh out my world lore, but ah well.
And I don’t know if you were around in the chat yesterday, but I’m one of *those* people — I’ve written fanfiction before. Don’t tell my family! 😉
4. Really, what fanfiction did you write about? We won’t tell your family we promise 😏.
-Jieret: Um, mostly Naruto with a sprinkling of .hack, I think 😳.
5. Good choices haha. If you had to pick only one Defina character to write their story about, who would it be?
-Jieret: I latched onto Cervantes and her WHIRLYBIRD LANCE OF DOOOOOOOOOOOOM when her Hyper animation was first released, definitely her. Hercules was probably second, because of the pattern of “Sleep. Wreck stuff. ~~Harass Mozart~~ Sleep.” was a lot of fun to play off of.
6. Oh yes, the favorite queens of Prometheus xD. So I heard you grew up across many places! What was it like traveling so much while you were young? And do you feel like experiencing so many different cultures allowed you to be more open with NFT gaming?
-Jieret: Huh, what an interesting question about traveling and crypto! Yes, I did travel a lot. I was born in Washington State, but my dad was in the US Navy so we moved around a lot. Sometimes my siblings and I even lived in Canada a bit with relatives when my dad was on ship duty. Canada, Washington, California, Guam, Philippines….
Then I joined the Army when I grew up, so I moved around a lot more. Korea, Kuwait, various parts of the US, more Korea…. About the crypto piece… I don’t think that actually plays into it, I think getting into crypto was more about the idea of digital money. Fun fact: I bought a tiny amount of Bitcoin in 2013. Not-so-fun fact: I sold it all in 2017. Then I got back into crypto in 2021, then found my way here….
Ironically enough, I sold my BTC because I didn’t think it would fulfill its original intent of digital cash. The store-of-value narrative was one that never crossed my mind back then. Oops.
7. Wow that’s a lot of places you’ve lived in! Where’s the most interesting place you’ve traveled to?
-Jieret: Hmm. That might take me a minute to think about. I’ve seen a lot of cool things, even if I didn’t fully appreciate it at the time! Um, let’s see. In no particular order:
-Empire State Building, New York City
-Space Needle, Seattle, WA
-Jeju Island, South Korea
-Pentagon, Washington DC
-The Alamo, San Antonio, TX
-Shibuya Crossing, Tokyo
Jeju Island is kinda like Hawaii for Korea. Pro Tip: If you Google it you may see something called “Love Land.” Do NOT Google that at work or anywhere that you might embarrass someone, lol.
8. Just looked up Jeju Island and it is indeed NSFW lmao. Here’s a silly scenario. If you had to start from scratch with $500 in BNB, how would you go about it in NFT gaming?
-Jieret: $500? That gets me about 1/3rd of a Solomon, right? (My math may be a wee bit off)
9. Haha great choice. If you had to give your past version in crypto who knew nothing about crypto, advice on how to succeed in crypto, what would it be?
-Jieret: Besides the obligatory “BUY MOAR?” I’d say actually study the [crypto] space. Honestly, I bought BTC in 2013 because I needed a topic for a research paper and it sounded cool. My research focused on the burgeoning use cases of BTC (Crypto ATMs, some people accepting it for payments) and I’d read Satoshi’s whitepaper, but I didn’t really *know* how crypto worked. It was just something that seemed interesting.
If I was aware of how the crypto space actually worked and what the potential actually was, I might have been more involved from the get-go and not lost touch or faith in it. Or I might have gotten rekt at Mt. Gox. Either or.
10. Great tip for researching more! Thank you for taking your time to do this interview 😊. Where else may people find you on social media?
-Jieret: Thanks for having me! I have a Twitter @LurkingWatchman I mostly use for crypto stuffs (so it’s pretty much what you expect from an account started for Twitter), but I don’t use too many other social stuffs.
As far as other groups you mentioned them earlier, but the Defina Writers are back at it again, looking to build up our world and deliver a story I hope you all can enjoy!
Crypto-related: I’ve mentioned them before in the gamer lounge space, but if you’re into Horror-based games or First-person shooters, you really should check out The Bornless. Oddly enough, I’m a fan of neither horror nor FPS, yet I love the community there almost as much as this one. They’re also amazingly persistent with their updates and the style is top-notch.
Non-crypto related: Do you like American football? Do you like the thought of running or coaching a simulated American football team? Do you like staring at spreadsheets and poring over simulated box scores of simulated teams and drafting simulated players? If you answered yes to all three, what is wrong with you? …but you’d be a great fit for a website that does just those kinds of things, called “cfbhc”. Tell ’em Jieret sent you!
Thanks again TG! Later everyone 👋.
