Defina Integrates Chainlink VRF to Support Fair Hero NFT Minting Process
Hello Definians,
We are pleased to announce that we have integrated Chainlink Verifiable Random Function (VRF) into Defina’s new Mystery Box V4 smart contract. By integrating the industry-leading decentralized oracle network, we now have access to a secure and auditable source of randomness needed to help ensure unbiased and tamper-proof results when minting new Hero NFTs. Ultimately, this helps protect one of the game’s core mechanics and gives strong assurances that every player has an equal chance of minting rare NFTs.
Defina is an anime-styled NFT gacha game where players buy or mint limited edition Hero NFTs with various rarities that determine game difficulty. Players are able to monetize the gameplay for fun as they play through multiple interactive game modes where competitiveness with your Hero NFT teams is rewarded.
We chose Chainlink VRF as our source of randomness as it is the industry-leading RNG solution, allowing projects to create unpredictable outcomes. It is auditable on-chain where even the team, validators, and node operators cannot manipulate the resulting randomness. Chainlink VRF has a proven track record with other projects that have already integrated it, such as Cryptoblades, Axie Infinity, Ether Cards, Aavegotchi, and more.
Chainlink VRF works by combining block data that is still unknown when the request is made with the oracle node’s pre-committed private key to generate both a random number and a cryptographic proof. Defina will only accept the random number input if it has a valid cryptographic proof, and the cryptographic proof can only be generated if the VRF process is tamper-proof. This provides users with automated and publicly verifiable assurances directly on-chain that each situation using Chainlink VRF for randomness is provably fair and cannot be tampered with or predicted by the oracle, outside entities, blockchain miners/validators, or the Defina team.
A core element of Defina is the gacha (random distribution) aspect of the minted characters’ rarity from the Mystery Boxes, which puts the “gacha” in “gacha game.” For players that want a transparent minting process, secure and transparent RNG infrastructure is what bridges the game’s integrity with player trust. Players will be able to verify that outcomes are truly random and check that no party can manipulate the random number generator to give themselves an unfair advantage.
